The Button Row

What is this?

The button row sits between the selection panel and the grid. It holds the actions you use most while pricing - refreshing the grid, choosing which SKUs to look at, and the one-click analysis, column, sort and print tools. The buttons on the right show only an icon; hover one for its name.

Walk through it in the app: lesson 1006 — Button bar. Margin Master can walk you through these steps live: turn on Training / Guide Mode from the Help menu, then type 1006 into the Lessons & Guides box — or ask Margin Master support to run it with you.

The button row, numbered left to right

1. Refresh Data

Reloads the grid from the database using the current selections. Use it after anything that changes data outside the grid - a strategy run, an import, a vendor sync, or a change made in a dialog - and whenever the numbers on screen look stale. It is the same action as pressing the refresh command in other windows; nothing is lost by refreshing.

2. Records found

The italic count next to Refresh shows how many rows the current selections produced: No Data, 1 Record Found, or for example 12,481 Records Found. Watch this number as you add selections - it is the quickest way to see whether a selection did what you meant.

3. Which SKUs to show

The drop-down chooses the type of SKU in the grid. Its wording follows your vendor - for an Ace Hardware store it reads:

Choice Shows
Show Ace Skus Only items that matched your vendor's catalog
Show Non-Ace Skus Only items that did not match the catalog - your own products, other suppliers, discontinued items
Show ALL Skus Everything

What "vendor SKU" means. When your point-of-sale data is imported, every SKU is looked up in the vendor catalog for your store (and, for Ace, your RSC). A SKU that is found is a vendor SKU; one that is not is a non-vendor SKU. The result is stored with the row, so the choice is instant.

The choice changes what the record count, the summary and the strategy run can see, so the usual working position is Show ALL Skus. Margin Master switches to ALL by itself while a strategy executes, and a saved selection remembers the choice you made.

When you use Find Sku, the choice is ignored so the SKU is found wherever it is.

4. Cost Break Model for Selection

Opens the cost break model for the displayed items - see Cost Break Analysis.

5. Profit Analyzer

One click opens the Profit Analyzer for the current selections: current and future margin, the dollar impact and the twelve-month history, with export to Excel.

6. Statistics for Current Selections

A quick statistical view of the displayed rows - counts and distributions of price, cost and margin.

7. Future Price greater than $0.00

Narrows the grid to rows that have a future price. After a strategy run this is the fastest way to look only at what will change.

8. Edit Columns in View

Opens Edit Columns - the same as View > Edit Columns Displayed.

9. Edit Sort Order

Opens Edit Sort Sequence - the same as View > Edit Sort Order.

10. Print/Export

Opens the Print/Export dialog for the displayed rows - see Printing and Exporting.

Tips

The button row and the selection panel work together: set your selections, check the record count, then use the analysis buttons on what is displayed.

If a button seems to do nothing, look at the record count first - an empty selection gives the tools nothing to work on.

Common Questions

Q: My drop-down says "Show DIB Skus" / "Show Non-DIB Skus". A: The wording follows your primary vendor. The meaning is the same.

Q: I switched to Show Non-Ace Skus and the summary changed. A: The summary, the record count and the analysis tools all work on what is displayed. Switch back to Show ALL Skus to see the whole store.

Q: There is no status bar - where do messages appear? A: Margin Master has no status bar. Progress appears in a Please Wait panel over the window, and warnings appear as banners and title-bar badges - see Banners and Badges.
