Propello POS Integration Guide
What is this?
Margin Master connects directly to the Propello point-of-sale system (Epicor Retail Cloud, https://<yourstore>.epicorretailcloud.com). Once the connection is set up it downloads your product export itself and sends your new retails straight into Propello's Price Review. Propello is supported for both Ace Hardware and Do it Best stores.
Walk through it in the app: guide 4005 — Importing your Propello data. Margin Master can walk you through these steps live: turn on Training / Guide Mode from the Help menu, then type 4005 into the Lessons & Guides box — or ask Margin Master support to run it with you.
This guide walks through the three things a Propello store does with Margin Master, in order:
- Options settings requirements — set the POS type to Propello and enter the Propello connection.
- Importing point-of-sale data — Data > Import Propello Data downloads and loads your items.
- Exporting price changes back to Propello — Print/Export sends new retails to Price Review, or writes a CSV you import by hand.
1. Options settings requirements
Set the POS System Type to Propello
Open Tools > Options, and on the Store Information tab (under General Settings) set POS System Type to Propello.

Changing this shows the Propello tab under POS / Connections immediately — no restart needed. The Propello tab is hidden while Margin Master is in demo mode.
The Propello tab
Tools > Options > POS / Connections > Propello

- Propello URL — the web address you use to sign in to Propello. Enter just the part before
.epicorretailcloud.com(for exampleyourstore) or paste the whole address from your browser — Margin Master tidies it up either way and storeshttps://yourstore.epicorretailcloud.com/. - Username — the Propello user Margin Master signs in with. Use a dedicated Propello user for Margin Master rather than a person's own login, so the connection keeps working when staff change.
- Password — that user's password. It is stored encrypted on this computer and backed up to the Margin Master cloud so support can help you restore the connection. If the password changes in Propello, enter the new one here and click Save & Test.
- Save & Test — logs in to Propello, creates or repairs the saved Products-grid view "Margin Master (Auto)" (every column visible), then saves the settings. Settings are saved only after a successful test. The validated connection is also backed up to the cloud. Verified appears in green afterwards and clears as soon as any field is edited.
- Restore from Cloud… — fills in a previously validated connection saved in the cloud (see below).
- Help panel — click into a field and this panel explains it, including the Propello rights the user needs. The ? button above it opens this guide.
Propello user rights
The Propello user needs: Product access, "save grid profiles", Alert Overview, Pricing / Price Review, and the Task Log viewer.
If Save & Test reports a permissions problem, ask your Propello administrator to grant the required rights to this user, then test again.
Save & Test and the Connection Report
While the test runs the tab shows Testing Propello Connection... with the step in progress. The result opens in a Connection Report window with Copy to Clipboard and Close — copy it into a support ticket if anything fails.
OK Connected to yourstore.epicorretailcloud.com as marginmaster
Saved view 'Margin Master (Auto)' created with 229 columns.
Settings saved. Data > Get POS Data will now download directly from Propello.
| Report headline | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
OK Connected to <host> as <user> |
Login worked and the "Margin Master (Auto)" view exists (created or already present). | Nothing — go to Importing point-of-sale data. |
FAIL Propello login failed |
Propello rejected the username or password. | Re-enter the credentials and test again. |
FAIL Propello permissions problem |
The user signed in, but Propello refused a later step (the report names the step and the HTTP status). This is almost always a permissions issue with the assigned Propello credentials. | Ask the Propello administrator to grant the rights above, then Save & Test again. |
FAIL Could not reach Propello |
Network problem or wrong URL. | Check the Propello URL and the internet connection. |
FAIL Propello did not finish in time |
Propello did not finish the job within the allowed time. | Try again later; if it keeps happening, contact Margin Master support. |
FAIL Propello answered unexpectedly |
Propello answered in a way Margin Master did not expect — the portal may have changed. | Contact Margin Master support. |
Each failure message ends with a Technical detail (for support) line — that is the part support needs.
Before the test can start, Margin Master checks the fields:
Enter the Propello URL or tenant prefix (for example: anchorace).— the URL is blank.'<text>' is not a valid Propello URL.— the URL could not be understood. Please enter the Propello username and password.
Restore from Cloud… and automatic restore
Every successful Save & Test backs the connection up to the Margin Master cloud. Restore from Cloud… opens the Restore Connection window, lists the saved Propello connections for this store (POS Type, Server, Username, Last Validated, Times), and fills in the one you pick — password included. Click Save & Test afterwards to verify it. If nothing has been saved yet the button explains: No Propello connection has been saved to the cloud for this store yet. One is saved automatically after a successful Save & Test.
On a new or reinstalled PC where nothing is saved locally, Margin Master loads the most recently validated cloud connection by itself when the tab opens and tells you so in the help panel (Connection restored from the cloud). Click Save & Test to confirm it.
Import / Export paths (file fallback only)
The direct connection needs no folders. They matter only for the file-based fallback described below: Tools > Options > General Settings > Miscellaneous, group Import/Export Paths — Import Path (where a hand-exported Propello .xlsx is picked up) and Export Path (where the price-change CSV is written). Both default to C:\MarginMaster.
2. Importing point-of-sale data
Data > Import Propello Data (Ctrl+I)
For a Propello store the Data menu's POS-import item reads Import Propello Data (other guides call the same item Get POS Data). Press Ctrl+I or click it:

If the connection has not been entered yet, Margin Master asks:
Margin Master is not connected to Propello yet. Enter the Propello URL, username and password in Tools > Options > Propello and click Save & Test. Would you like to go there now? (Choose No to import a Propello Excel file from the import folder instead.)
Yes opens Options on the Propello tab; No runs the import-folder fallback; Cancel stops.
What happens during a download
- Connecting to Propello... — Margin Master logs in and checks the "Margin Master (Auto)" view (repairing it if the Products grid gained or lost columns).
- It requests the Inventory Viewer Excel export of that view. The splash screen shows each step — Login, View, Export, Wait, Download — as elapsed and estimated time left; the estimate is learned from this store's previous runs (about 3 minutes for 30,000 items on the first run). Propello is given up to 20 minutes.
- The export is saved as
C:\MarginMaster\Import\Propello\PropelloProducts_yyyyMMdd_HHmm.xlsx, imported exactly as a hand-exported file would be, and then removed. The Propello alert that carried the export is deleted too, so your alert list does not fill up. - Successfully Imported N Records, then the normal post-import processing (main table rebuild, selection lists).
Cancel on the splash screen asks Are you sure you want to cancel the Propello download? — answering Yes stops the download and leaves the store's existing data unchanged (Import was cancelled.).
If the download fails
The failure is explained in the same terms as the Connection Report, followed by:
Import a Propello Excel file you exported yourself instead?
Yes opens Import Propello Excel File (*.xlsx) so you can browse to an export you made in Propello — run the full Products export with all columns — and the import continues from there. No stops.
Import folder fallback
With no connection configured (and No chosen above), Margin Master looks in the Import Path for exactly one .xlsx:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
Import File path does not exist! |
The Import Path folder is missing — fix it in Tools > Options > Miscellaneous. |
No Propello Files Found in Import Directory |
Put the Propello export .xlsx in the folder — or enter the connection in Tools > Options > Propello to download directly instead. |
Multiple Propello Excel Files Found in the Import Directory |
Leave only one .xlsx in the folder. |
| Propello Import Failed — This usually means the spreadsheet is not a complete Propello inventory export. | The file did not match the Propello layout (see below). Export the full inventory (all columns) from Propello and try again. |
Column report
Whichever way the file arrives, its headers are compared with the standard Propello column list and the result is written to %ProgramData%\RetailerSoft\MarginMaster\Logs\Propello\PropelloImportColumns.txt (STANDARD / IMPORT columns, UNMATCHED for misses, plus any columns in the file that Margin Master does not know). A file must match more than 190 standard headers to be accepted; the only columns that must be present are Store #, Item and Retail. Header names differ slightly between the API export and a hand-made export (for example Store # vs Store Number, Prim Loc vs Loc 1 - Primary) — both spellings are recognised.
3. Exporting price changes back to Propello
After running a strategy and reviewing future prices, click Print (or File > Print) to open Print/Export. For a Propello store the Send to choices are:

- Propello Import CSV File — writes
NewRetails.csvfor you to import in Propello by hand (the button reads Send to Propello Import CSV File). - Propello Price Review — uploads the changes straight into Propello's Price Review.
- The Send to … button carries out whichever destination is selected. Excel File and Label Master work as for any other POS.
All Records or Range of Records, and the Future Price = $0.00 choices, work exactly as for a file export. Only items with a future price are sent.
Send to Propello Price Review
If the connection is missing, Margin Master says Propello is not connected yet. Enter the Propello URL, username and password in Tools > Options > Propello and click Save & Test, then try again.
Select Effective Date — choose the date the new retails should take effect (1), then click Set Date (2), which is enabled for today or later; Cancel stops.

Margin Master builds the change list (one row per SKU and store; rows with no future price are skipped) and first checks Price Review. If changes are already waiting for the selected store(s) it asks whether to send now: If a SKU is already waiting in Price Review, its pending price is replaced with the new one; nothing else that is waiting is removed — so re-sending is safe. If nothing has a future price: Nothing to send - none of the selected records has a future price.
Sending N price changes to Propello... — uploaded in batches of up to 5,000 with elapsed and estimated time left (about 5 minutes to add and 3.5 minutes to save per batch). Cancel asks Cancel the upload to Propello? Changes already saved to Price Review will remain there.
A timestamped copy is written to
{Export Path}\NewRetailsExportHistory\NewRetailsExport_<timestamp>_PriceReview.csv(kept 30 days). The Propello Price Review report shows the outcome:
OK Uploaded 1,240 of 1,240 (added 1,180, updated 60)
Store(s): 1
Effective date: 2026-09-01
Requested: 1,240 Added: 1,180 Updated: 60 Not uploaded: 0
Finish in Propello: Products > Pricing > Price Review - review the changes, print labels, and Finalize.
Prices do not change in the store until you finalize them in Propello.
A PARTIAL result lists every SKU that was Not uploaded with Propello's reason — store number not in Propello, item not found for that store, duplicate row (last one wins), or an item Propello refused to add.
Finish in Propello. Margin Master never finalizes price changes. In Propello go to Products > Pricing > Price Review, review the changes, print labels, and Finalize — prices do not change in the store until you do.
Send to Propello Import CSV File
For stores that prefer to import the file themselves:
- Margin Master writes
{Export Path}\NewRetails.csv(an existing file is replaced) and a timestamped copy underNewRetailsExportHistory\(30-day retention), then reports Exported N Propello Price Changes records to. - In Propello, import the file with the Price Change Import.
The file uses Propello's Price Change Import layout — no header mapping is needed:
| Column | Value |
|---|---|
| Effective Date | Blank — Propello applies the change today. |
| Item | The SKU. |
| Store Number | The store. |
| Sell Price Update Method (Retail) | Always Set Price. |
| New Sell Price Update value (Retail) | The future price (0 – 9999.99). |
The Export Options tab in Tools > Options does not affect this file; its layout is fixed.
Tips
- Use a dedicated Propello user for Margin Master so the connection survives staff changes, and give it the rights listed above before the first Save & Test.
- If Import Propello Data takes longer than the estimate, leave it running — the Wait step is Propello preparing the export. The splash keeps counting while it waits.
- Re-sending to Price Review is safe: pending items are updated in place, and the pre-check tells you how many are already waiting.
- Keep the Connection Report text when contacting support — the Technical detail line pinpoints the failing step.
Common Questions
Q: Do I still need to export a spreadsheet from Propello? A: No. With the connection entered, Import Propello Data downloads it for you. A hand export is only the fallback when the download fails or no connection is configured.
Q: The prices I sent are not in the store yet. A: They are waiting in Propello Price Review. Open Products > Pricing > Price Review and Finalize them.
Q: Can I see what the "Margin Master (Auto)" view is? A: It is a saved view on Propello's Products grid with every column visible. Margin Master creates and repairs it; you do not need to touch it, but deleting it in Propello is harmless — the next Save & Test or import recreates it.
Q: Where is the downloaded file?
A: C:\MarginMaster\Import\Propello\ while the import runs; it is removed once the import succeeds. The column report stays in %ProgramData%\RetailerSoft\MarginMaster\Logs\Propello\.
