Finding SKUs

What is this?

Quick Find lets you search for a SKU across all of your loaded main tables by SKU number or description. Once you find the item you are looking for, you can navigate directly to it in the center grid or open its SKU Detail screen.

How to Access

  • Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+F
  • Menu: Tools > Find Sku

Using Quick Find

Quick Find dialog with its parts numbered

  1. Sku Search · 2. Search Target · 3. Results · 4. Show / Cancel

Type at least 3 characters into the SKU Search field (letters, digits, space, _ and -). Quick Find searches by itself after a short pause - there is no need to press Enter.

What is matched, in order:

  1. SKU - any SKU that starts with or contains what you typed. Matches that start with your text are listed first, so 1000 finds 1000123 before 50100045.
  2. Description - only when no SKU matched at all: any description that contains the text, so broom or HARPER finds items by name.

UPC codes and alternate SKUs are not searched; use the selection boxes or the grid's own search panel for those (see Working with the Grid).

Results are highlighted in yellow where the text matched. Up to 10 results are shown; if more exist you see 10+ matches found - type more characters to narrow it. A single result is selected automatically.

Store Filter

When your database contains data for multiple stores, a Store dropdown appears next to the search field. Select a specific store to narrow results, or leave it set to "ALL" to search across all stores.

Search Target

Choose where the selected SKU should be shown:

Option What it does
Center Grid Navigates to the SKU in the main data grid and highlights the row
Sku Detail Screen Opens the full SKU Detail window for the selected item

Your search target preference is saved automatically and remembered between sessions.

Show and Cancel

  • Show - goes to the selected SKU using your chosen target. Enabled once a result is selected.
  • Cancel - closes the dialog without action.

What Show does to your selections

Showing a SKU in the Center Grid clears every selection box and shows just that SKU (and just the chosen store, if you picked one). The SKU-type drop-down on the button row is ignored so the item is found whether it is a vendor SKU or not.

There is no "back" - the previous selection is gone. If you want to return to it afterwards, use Strategy > Save Current Selection before you search, then Load Saved Selection (Ctrl+L) after; or press F12 to clear the single-SKU filter and start again.

Tips

Tip: Quick Find searches across all loaded main tables. If you have multiple stores, the store filter helps narrow down which store's data you want to browse.

Tip: You can search by partial SKU or partial description. For example, typing "hammer" will find items with "hammer" anywhere in the description.

Common Questions

Q: Why does Quick Find say "No Matches Found"? A: Make sure you have typed at least 3 characters. Also verify that your data has been loaded — Quick Find searches the main tables that are currently built in your database.

Q: Can I search by UPC or barcode? A: Quick Find searches the SKU and Description columns only. UPC/barcode searches require using the main grid's filter or column search features.
