Rebuild Data and Rebuild Selection Lists

What is this?

The grid does not read your point-of-sale and vendor data directly. After every import and sync, Margin Master builds a main table that joins the two - your SKUs, costs and sales next to the vendor's prices and groupings - and then builds the selection lists: the values offered in each selection box. Two items on the Data menu let you run those builds yourself.

Data > Rebuild Data

Rebuilds the main table from the point-of-sale and vendor data already in the database, then rebuilds the selection lists. Nothing is downloaded or imported; it re-runs the join.

Use it when:

• a vendor sync or POS import completed but the grid did not change (the rebuild was postponed - the Click to update data badge says so);
• support has changed a setting that affects how rows are built - store matchup, RSC, zone assignments;
• the grid looks wrong after a restore.

On a large multi-store database a rebuild takes a few minutes; the Please Wait panel shows progress.

Data > Rebuild Selection Lists

Rebuilds only the values in the selection boxes, from the current main table. Much faster than a full rebuild.

Use it when:

• a selection box is missing a department, class or vendor you know exists in the grid;
• you have just changed which boxes appear in Edit Selection Boxes;
• a box shows values that no longer exist.

Margin Master also re-checks the selection lists at every start and repairs any that drifted, so this is rarely needed by hand.

Why the two are separate

Rebuilding the main table is the expensive step; the selection lists are derived from it in seconds. Keeping them separate means a stale box can be fixed without waiting for a full rebuild.

Common Questions

Q: Will Rebuild Data lose my future prices? A: Future prices are kept where the SKU still exists. A SKU that has left your point of sale disappears from the grid along with its future price.

Q: Rebuild Data did not fix a missing SKU. A: A rebuild only re-joins what is already in the database. If the SKU is new, import your POS data (Data > Get POS Data) first.
