Export Options

What is this?

The Export Options tab (Tools > Options > General Settings > Export Options) defines the shape of the generic text export Margin Master writes when you send price changes to a file: the file type, the delimiter between fields, whether a header row is included, and which fields appear in which order. Point-of-sale systems with their own fixed format (Propello, Epicor FTP and others) ignore these settings and use their guide's layout instead.

The Export Options tab

Export Type

TXT or CSV - the file extension and type written to the Export Path.

Delimiter

The character between fields: COMMA (default), TAB, PIPE or NONE (fixed layout, no separator). Match what your point of sale's import expects.

Headers

Include column headers writes the field names as the first row. Most POS imports want the header off; spreadsheet users want it on.

Export Field Layout

Two lists: Available Fields on the left, Export Fields (in order) on the right.

  • Add to export (→) moves the selected field into the export; Remove from export (←) takes it out.
  • Move up / Move down change the order of the export fields.

The right-hand list is the file layout: first field first, in the order shown. Changes save immediately.

Tips

Ask your point-of-sale vendor for its price-change import layout before building the field list - the order and the delimiter both have to match exactly.

Keep SKU first and the new price next to it; everything else is optional to most POS imports.

Common Questions

Q: My POS rejected the file. A: Check the delimiter and the header setting first; then compare the field order with the POS import specification.

Q: These settings changed nothing for my Propello export. A: Propello, Epicor FTP and other systems with a defined format use their own layout - see the system's guide in Part III.
