Shared (Premade) Strategies

What is this?

Shared strategies are professionally built pricing strategies published by Margin Master support that you can download into Margin Master as a starting point. Instead of building a strategy from a blank page, you pick one made for your vendor (for example, an Ace Hardware baseline), download it, and copy it to customize.

Downloaded strategies are read-only: like the built-in rounding schemes, they cannot be edited in place. To make changes, open the strategy and use Copy Current Strategy — the copy is fully yours.

Downloading a strategy

Menu: Strategy > Get Premade Strategies

The catalog window lists every strategy published for your vendor:

Buttons:

• Download / Update — installs the selected strategy (or re-downloads it when a newer version is available). If a local strategy already uses the same name, the download is installed under "Name (Shared)".
• Remove — deletes the local copy after confirmation. Copies you made are kept. The active strategy cannot be removed — activate a different strategy first.
• Refresh — reloads the catalog.

Downloading never changes your active strategy and never touches your existing strategies. Any rounding schemes the strategy needs are installed with it (existing schemes with the same name are never overwritten).

Working with a downloaded strategy

Open it in the Strategy Manager like any other strategy. A banner shows "Shared strategy vN — read-only". You can:

• Execute it, activate it, export it to Excel, and back it up
• Copy Current Strategy to create an editable copy (the copy is a normal local strategy)

You cannot save step edits, rename, delete steps, or delete the strategy from the Strategy Manager — remove it from Strategy > Get Premade Strategies instead.

Tips

Execute the downloaded strategy once, then use AI Review (if enabled) or the execution summary to see how well it covers your store before adopting it.

When a newer version is published, the catalog shows "vN available". Updating replaces the read-only copy — since it cannot be edited locally, no local changes can be lost.

Common Questions

Q: The Download button says a strategy with that name already exists. A: You have a local strategy with the same name. The download installs itself as "Name (Shared)" — or rename your local strategy first.

Q: Why can't I edit the downloaded strategy? A: Shared strategies stay in sync with the published version, so they are read-only by design. Copy it (hamburger menu > Copy Current Strategy) and edit the copy.

Q: Do my custom groups and SKU exceptions come with a shared strategy? A: No. Shared strategies carry pricing steps and any rounding schemes they reference. Custom groups and SKU-level exceptions are specific to your store.
