Updating and Deleting Steps

What is this?

Everything after a step is created happens in the Strategy Manager (Strategy > Manage Pricing Strategy, Ctrl+S): ordering, switching steps on and off, renaming, deleting, and changing a step's selection or action. Changes take effect on the next run.

Manage Pricing Strategies window

Re-ordering steps

The list order is the execution order, so this is the edit that matters most.

  • Up 1 / Down 1 move the selected step one place. Hold Ctrl for five places, Alt for To Top / To Bottom - the button captions change as you hold the key.
  • Right-click a step for Move Up / Move Down by 1, 3, 5 or 10, Move to Top / Move to Bottom, or Move to Specific Position....
  • Custom Groups and SKU Level Exceptions are always the last two rows and cannot be moved.

Press Save when the order is right; Save is enabled only while there are unsaved changes, and the changed rows show yellow until then.

Switching a step on or off

Untick Act in the list, or flip the orange Active switch in the step's detail header. An inactive step shows grey and struck through, stays in the strategy, and is skipped by the run. Activate All Strategy Steps / Deactivate All Strategy Steps on the hamburger menu do it for every step at once.

Renaming a step

Select the step and edit the Step Name box at the top of the detail pane. Names must be unique within the strategy.

Changing what a step does

The detail pane shows the step in plain words - Set Future Price: Retail, and Apply Rounding: Ace-1, for the following Sku's: ..., where: Department is 10, 14. Two things can be changed here:

  • Rounding - tick or untick the rounding checkbox and pick the scheme; the label flips between and Apply Rounding and but do NOT Apply Rounding.
  • Min/Max - tick the checkbox and choose the Min/Max strategy.
  • Condition values - the pencil beside a condition opens its values; remove one with the red ×, Reset restores the original list.

To change the selection or the price action itself, use Load: the manager closes, the step's selection and Future Price settings return to the main window, you adjust them, and save with the camera choosing Update Existing Rule. Show Affected loads the items the step priced last run instead - use it when the step changed the very values it selected on.

Deleting a step

Select it and press Delete (or the Delete key). There is no undo; deactivate instead if you may want it back. The two special rows cannot be deleted.

Whole-strategy actions (hamburger menu)

New Empty Strategy, Copy Current Strategy, Rename Current Strategy, Delete Current Strategy (confirmed twice), Set Rounding Scheme (Active Steps Only) to put every active step on one scheme, and Refresh Strategy to reload from the database. Downloaded shared strategies are read-only - copy one to edit it (Shared Strategies).

Tips

Export to Excel before a big re-ordering session - the workbook is a readable backup of the whole strategy.

Deactivate rather than delete when testing what a step contributes; run, compare the summary, reactivate.

Common Questions

Q: Save is greyed out. A: Nothing has changed yet. Save enables as soon as a step is moved, toggled, renamed or edited.

Q: I closed the window and lost my changes. A: Closing with unsaved changes asks Do you want to Save your changes? - answer Yes.

Q: Can I copy one step to another strategy? A: Load the step, switch the active strategy, then Save Current Selection as a new rule.
