Printing and Exporting

What is this?

Print/Export - the printer button on the button row or File > Print - opens one dialog that does two jobs: it prints or exports the rows currently displayed in the grid, and it sends future prices to your point of sale. Sending is how a future price in the green column becomes a real price on the shelf.

Walk through it in the app: guides 2003 — Sending the changes and printing tags, 2004 — Finalizing in your point of sale, lessons 2005 — Why the counts differ and 2017 — When tags print wrong, lesson 2019 — When price changes come back, and for Paladin and RockSolid stores guides 4003 and 4004. Margin Master can walk you through these steps live: turn on Training / Guide Mode from the Help menu, then type the number into the Lessons & Guides box — or ask Margin Master support to run it with you.

This page is being expanded. The destinations and file layouts for each point-of-sale system are documented today in the system's own guide (for example Propello §3, Exporting price changes back to Propello).

The two kinds of output

Output What it produces Typical use
Print / Excel A printed report or Excel workbook of the displayed rows and columns Reviewing a proposed change with staff; keeping a record
Send to point of sale A price-change file, or a direct upload, in the format your POS imports Making the future prices live

For file exports, only the rows displayed in the grid are included. Label Master printing works from the loaded selection instead, so a filter typed into the grid columns narrows exports but not tags. Either way, set your selections first - and, for price changes, use the button row's Future Price greater than $0.00 so only changed items are sent (it narrows both).

Effective date

When sending price changes you are asked for the effective date the point of sale should apply them. Most stores choose the next morning so the change goes in overnight.

Tips

Send price changes only after reading the Summary for the same selection - it is the last check before the prices leave Margin Master.

Keep the exported file: Margin Master keeps a history folder for exports, and the file is the audit trail of what changed and when.

Common Questions

Q: I sent prices but the POS still shows the old ones. A: Check the effective date, and whether your point of sale needs its own import step to pick the file up - see your POS guide in Part III.

Q: Can I export just the columns I see? A: Yes. The export uses the current column view - choose the columns in Edit Columns first.
